Oscar Jeakings - Community Plant Nursery Manager: “Godmanchester Town Council are really pleased with our new buildings from SKW. Visually the two new buildings are in keeping with our community plant nursery site and the standard of finish is really high. The project was completed ahead of time and within budget. It has been a pleasure working with SKW Construction.”

The CLASSROOM SOLUTION

The 73.2m2 two bay Classroom building 12.2 x 6m consisted of a classroom area with 2 toilets off the main area, 1 being a disabled toilet fully accessible meeting the requirements of BS8300 and the Equalities Act 2010. One of the clients wishes was to ensure that the buildings designed and installed were environmentally friendly. The building had 7 uPVC framed double glazed units, and 2 double french doors to not only allow for good ventilation but to also provide easy movement between the indoor and outdoor space.

THE Kitchen SOLUTION -

The 20m2 1 bay 5.2m x 3.8m Kitchen building was designed to enhance the experience of the nursery’s visitors, this building incorporated a kitchen, and two toilets, again one of which meeting the requirements of BS8300 and the Equalities Act 2010, both these toilets were accessible from outside, allowing for the building to also be used independently. In order to promote inclusivity as this was a main priority for our client, as part of the works we had to undertake a reduced dig, to provide level access to the principal entrances into both buildings, to provide an inclusive facility. We implemented a strategy early-on in the design development process which meant that the U Values and Air Tightness of Godmanchester, well exceeded L2A requirements by a considerable margin, achieving a score of 2.71 m3/Hr/m2. Ultimately meaning lower running costs through reduced heat loss and further demonstrated our excellent workmanship and detailing.
